What do you need to open a bank account in the Netherlands?
Banks need to feel comfortable with your company as their client. This means the need to see a clear business plan and, if available, results from the past. Also, they will want to know where your suppliers and clients are. Most banks comply to US sanctions and boycots.
Which is the best Dutch bank?
The main international banks in the Netherlands are Rabobank, ING, and ABN Amro. It depends per business which bank is most suitable and most likely to accept your company as a client. Can you open a Dutch bank account online?
Most Dutch banks need to identify your company’s director(s) face-to-face in a meeting in the Netherlands. BUNQ bank does not require this.
But what if I can’t travel? For directors who cannot travel, we offer solutions: either the company can appoint a Dutch resident director, or the company can work with German or Swiss bank, which have less strict regulations. We can arrange introductions to these banks
Do you actually need a Dutch bank account?
No, it is not a strict legal requirement for a Dutch company to have a Dutch bank account. However, having one is one of the ‘substance’ indications used buy the Dutch Tax Authorities to determine tax residency. This means that companies with a Dutch bank account can access more easily Dutch tax benefits and Dutch tax treaties. It is perfectly legal for a Dutch company to maintain bank accounts in whichever country in the world.
